A house refers to a shelter or a place to reside. Whereas a home refers to a place where the feeling of totherness, comfort and oneness is prevalent. A house may just be a concrete structure made of bricks and cement but a home on other hand is probably the same just that it is nurtured and cared for and turned into a place for the family.
A home somplace where one grumbles the most but is treated the best and hence comes the comparison with the term "house". A home always has the meaning of house includede in it but a house may or may not be a home.
